so today disco told us that Current Value did some production on the newest Bjork album and holy fucking shit it is the coolest goddamn thing I’ve ever heard in my life
literally ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER WRITTEN
I’m confused. He isn’t credited with it. Not in the liner notes, or anything on the internet. What is the source? Only group/person remotely similar that’s credited is 16bit for god’s sake. Maybe I’m just being stupid.
Either way great fucking album literally just bought this.

Sacrifice
Adapted By [Adapted To Sharpsichord] – Henry Dagg
Producer, Music By, Lyrics By, Arranged By [Sharpsichord, Voice] – Björk
Programmed By [Beat] – Current Value
Well that clears that up. Now I can go back to being confused about other things.

watch til the end
cool indie game, had to have been influenced by House of Leaves
it’s based on http://www.scp-wiki.net/
which is definitely inspired by house of leaves!inspired by house of leaves, in that it’s a complete waste of time
the scariest game ever made
(if you have a deadly fear of staircases)
honestly this is an incredibly cool idea. yes, it’s the same thing forever, but that’s the point. it uses procedural generation to stop the game at a random floor, so the outcome is potentially different and jarring for each person playing it that expects it at floor 70, 150, etc. the SCPs are some of my favorite things ever and this is a great start. does it play well as a game? no, of course not, but it’s a fun, if plodding and torturous, thrill ride :]
also house of leaves is pretty neat, as is ergodic literature in general so whatevs
This is literally my dream game.
I need to read House of Leaves again.
Say NO to ACTA
ACTA, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, makes SOPA look like child’s play. It would establish an independent multi-national governing body focused solely on enforcing the intellectual property rights of major corporations. Learn more at the video above.
oh
yeah
acta’s worse than sopa, saw another vid earlier in spanish explaining this
all of us need to spread the word about this
ALSO VERY IMPORTANT
woah shit ACTA is still around too? admittedly i lost track of this a while back because it faded into obscurity; i had a banner on the lapfox site for quite a while regarding it but haven’t heard anything since.
Stop this shit. Now.
The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has looked at tomorrow’s “Internet blackout” in opposition to the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA)—and it sees only a “gimmick,” a “stunt,” “hyperbole,” “a dangerous and troubling development,” an “irresponsible response,” and an “abuse of power.”
“Wikipedia, reddit, and others are going dark to protest the legislation, while sites like Scribd and Google will also protest. In response, MPAA chief Chris Dodd wheeled out the big guns and started firing the rhetoric machine-gun style.
“Only days after the White House and chief sponsors of the legislation responded to the major concern expressed by opponents and then called for all parties to work cooperatively together, some technology business interests are resorting to stunts that punish their users or turn them into their corporate pawns, rather than coming to the table to find solutions to a problem that all now seem to agree is very real and damaging.”
Can I interrupt for a moment? Thanks. When you complain that opponents didn’t “come to the table to find solutions”, do you mean that we didn’t give NINETY-FOUR MILLION DOLLARS to congress like the MPAA? Or do you mean that we didn’t come to the one hearing that Lamar Smith held, where opponents of SOPA were refused an opportunity to comment? Help me out, here, Chris Dodd, because I’m really trying hard to understand you.
“It is an irresponsible response and a disservice to people who rely on them for information and use their services. It is also an abuse of power given the freedoms these companies enjoy in the marketplace today. It’s a dangerous and troubling development when the platforms that serve as gateways to information intentionally skew the facts to incite their users in order to further their corporate interests.”
Oh ha ha. Ho. Ho. The MPAA talking about “skewing the facts to incite” anyone is just too much.
“A so-called “blackout” is yet another gimmick, albeit a dangerous one, designed to punish elected and administration officials who are working diligently to protect American jobs from foreign criminals.”
Except for the part where this is completely false, it’s a valid point.
“It is our hope that the White House and the Congress will call on those who intend to stage this “blackout” to stop the hyperbole and PR stunts and engage in meaningful efforts to combat piracy.”
Riiiiiiight. Protesting to raise awareness of terrible legislation that will destroy the free and open Internet is an abuse of power, but buying NINETY-FOUR MILLION DOLLARS worth of congressional votes is just fine.
I’m so disappointed in Chris Dodd. He was a pretty good senator, wrote some bills (like Dodd/Frank) that are genuinely helping people, and is going to be on the wrong side of every argument as head of the MPAA. What a wasted legacy.

I, again, didn’t really feel anything with this album. It was samey, I just felt it was too generic. The overall architecture of the songs was bland, and the ‘idea’ behind it was badly executed. The album is supposed to tell the story of a supposed ‘apocalypse’ (at least that’s I gather from the song titles and that fact that it’s tagged “post apocalypse” on last.fm), and it doesn’t work. At all. I would have expected a brilliant soundscape, but alas, there was none. There were some interesting tracks, “Eons Away, They Looked to the Stars” and “Far” which are both piano driven and are, well, very emotional. They are the only two tracks that seem to invoke any drive.
Anyway, this really doesn’t feel like dark ambient, either. It’s more…gray.
2/10 Pass. Not really much else to say.

I didn’t feel much with this album. The first track, “Imipramine” was filled with a low rumbling, and sounded as if an evil horde was constantly whispering low nothings in my ears. It was rather enjoyable. The second track, “Amoxapine” was piano/synth driven, and was much less dark than track one. Now to track three…
Track three, “A Waterclock, A Ball-Jointed Doll, A Broken Piano,” is 47 minutes long. And guess what? It all sounds the same. Seriously. It’s the same thing over and over again, with almost no differentiation, for 47 minutes. Just a bunch of chimes and a low sweep over and over. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be dark, or it’s just a joke, but there’s no point for it to be so long. I sure there might be some ‘underlying meaning’, but the song is just so uninteresting.
This album is background music, plain and simple.
4/10 Pass, but track one was interesting.
Recently, I’ve been doing reviews for 2011 dark ambient albums. I will post them here for archive and for others to read. All reviews will end with a rating and a “Pass” or “Recommended.”

Wow, that album was long. 2 hours, 51 minutes, and 31 seconds, to be exact. But that’s beside the point, the real point is this: this album is amasterpiece. Definitely one of my favorites for this year. There’s few things wrong with it. However, every masterpiece has it’s flaws. The flaws in this case are tracks three and four, “The Dream of the Unknown Kadeth” and “At the Mountains of Madness” [respectively]. To be precise, these tracks lacked what the others did not: a sense of direction. Tracks 1 and 2 are spectacular, they start out loud, and gradually get quiet while keeping things interesting with a deathly vibe and are equally well paced: and 5 does that and more: it keeps itself alive and active while simultaneously getting softer and softer. Track five “The Hoard of the Wizard-Beast” literally sounds like a massive beast groaning and sleeping, and is filled to the brim with delicious atmosphere. Tracks three and four fail to do all of those things, save for the starting out loud and getting quieter. Now, I’m not saying this is bad; it’s just quite boring. If anything, these two tracks are fantastic, but 68 minutes of it and it gets a bit dry.
Now, you may not agree with me, and that’s quite alright, but if you’ve listened to this album already, please, listen to it again with consideration for what I’ve said.
10/10. Very highly recommended, download this right now.
